In Quarter 1, students are introduced to the world of digital creation through MakeCode Arcade. Rather than focusing on building video games right away, students learn the creative skills that make digital experiences memorable. Students explore how artists, musicians, designers, storytellers, and programmers work together to create engaging digital experiences. Through hands-on projects, they learn to design backgrounds, create and customize sprites, add text and dialogue, create music and sound effects, and use code to bring their ideas to life. Throughout the quarter, students also practice digital citizenship, explore the relationship between hardware and software, develop problem-solving skills, and learn how creativity and technology work together. By the end of the quarter, students will combine these skills to create an original Interactive Arcade Showcase that demonstrates their growth as digital creators.
